About WRWA
Established in 1986, Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) is the statutory waste disposal body responsible for managing the recycling and waste collected by its four constituent inner-London boroughs. At the heart of WRWA’s collaborative work with its’ councils is a mission to prioritise waste prevention, reduce carbon emissions, and maximise value from the materials managed.
WRWA serves nearly one million residents living in 500,000 households across the London Boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Lambeth, Wandsworth, and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
WRWA’s aim is to significantly reduce the environmental impact of waste activities, as outlined in its Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy (2025-2040). The Authority is committed to innovation, achieving zero waste direct to landfill, and utilising the River Thames for sustainable transportation of waste.
WRWA is pleased to support the ISWA World Congress and looks forward to welcoming delegates on a site visit as part of the congress programme. Attendees will be able to view WRWA’s Materials Recycling Facility and education centre, Household Waste Recycling Centre, innovative reuse and refurbishment workshop for large electrical items (ReWork facility), and riverside transfer operations.
