Established in 1989 and headquartered at Boğaziçi University, KAKAD is the official National Member representing Turkey within the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA).

The committee is dedicated to promoting sustainable waste management, supporting scientific research, and minimizing solid waste pollution nationwide. KAKAD fosters strong collaboration among academia, local governments, and the private sector by organizing national symposiums, workshops, and congresses across different cities in Turkey. By facilitating knowledge exchange on waste recovery, disposal, and sustainable environmental practices, the committee actively contributes to solving regional environmental challenges while also providing educational scholarships to university students.
